Lovers and Enemies

The first of the Civil War trilogy.

As England is thrown into civil war, the Royalists and the Roundheads clash and an era of unrest begins. During this time of chaos, young Caroline Saunders is also fighting with her own heart.

She has been destined since birth to marry handsome Harry Mortimer but when their families start a bitter conflict over the war - his family supporting the King, her family believing in justice for the people - their arranged marriage is in jeopardy. And Caroline is startled to find that she is more upset by the idea of never seeing Harry's rebellious younger brother, Nicolas, again.

When her father is taken ill, after a fierce disagreement with Caroline's brother, he decides to send her, accompanied by her innocent young cousin Mercy, to stay with family in Oxford. The city soon becomes the King's stronghold, forcing Caroline to take a risk to help the man she loves. During the conflicts, as passions run high, Caroline and Mercy discover the penalty for love can be severe.
